Google's new Ask Advisor stitches Ads, Analytics, Merchant Center, and the Marketing Platform into one Gemini chat with shared memory. It's genuinely useful. It's also not what it looks like.
An agent optimises toward the goal you give it, using the data Google can see. That's the whole problem. Google can't see your margins by SKU. It can't see that your hero product is out of stock at the supplier next month. It can't see that half your branded conversions would have happened anyway. So the agent does exactly what the bidder has always done, just faster and more confidently: it pushes whatever scores best on the metric in front of it. Higher revenue, lower profit. The dashboard looks great.

Before you hand any decision to the agent, it helps to know exactly where its vision stops:
What Ask Advisor can see | What it can't see |
|---|---|
Clicks, impressions, CPA, ROAS across all linked accounts | Your margin by SKU or product category |
Conversion volume and trends from Google's pixel | Which conversions would have happened without the ad |
Audience signals and query match data | Stock levels, supplier lead times, or next month's promo plan |
Cross-channel spend from linked platforms | Your P&L, cash flow, or how much profit a sale actually leaves |
Historical performance across campaigns | The strategic context that makes a "bad" metric the right call |
The agent executes on what it sees. The business context it can't see is where the real decisions live.
What a senior operator does that an agent can't
Knows the business behind the account. Holds context across months, not chat sessions. Says no to a move the data likes but the P&L hates. That judgement is the job. The button-pushing was never the hard part. It's also why we cap every operator at six accounts: you can't hold that context across eighteen brands.
